I?m wild about strawberries and have even started growing a single plant in a planter. My plant doesn?t produce enough strawberries for this recipe, so I buy the sweetest farmers market strawberries I can find. This is a simple preparation, but always a great hit because of that unexpected almond taste.
Yield: Makes 8 to 10 servings
Preparation Time: 10 minutes plus 6 hours resting time
2 1/4 pounds fresh strawberries, trimmed and cut in half lengthwise
1/4 cup almond syrup
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup slivered almonds
10 fresh mint leaves
1. Put the strawberries in a large bowl, pour the almond syrup over them and sprinkle the sugar on top of them. Toss a few times, then marinate in the refrigerator for 6 hours.
2. Remove the strawberries and serve in individual dessert bowls with a teaspoon of slivered almonds on top of each and a mint leaf.
